Funding awarded for a new sample environment

Published Mar 27, 2020

A miniature Additive Manufacturing machine will be specially developed to enable real time tracking of material behaviours throughout electron beam based production processes.

The new sample environment will be a state-of-the-art addition to the Swedish Material Science beamline (P21) at PETRA III, which already has sophisticated sample environments for assessing metals production, electric arc deposition and tool cutting tool operations.

Studying the temporal evolution of materials and their characteristics as the process of additive manufacturing is ongoing should provide new scientific insights as well as make the use of AM more commercially viable - benefiting Swedish manufacturing industry and the environment.

This project is funded by the Swedish Reseach Council (VR) via RÅC and is led by KTH’s Greta Lundvall.
