In addition to lectures, this SwedNess course will have a hands on exercise on corrections and analysis of experimental data and home exercises.

Monday 16 October

10:00-11:45: General introduction and the scattering law S(Q,w) and related I(Q,t) and
G(r,t) (Jan Swenson, Chalmers).
13:15-15:00: Basic theory of inelastic neutron scattering. Different types of excitations
(Petr Cermak, Charles university, Prague)

Tuesday 17 October

10:00-11.45: Basic theory of quasielastic neutron scattering. (Maths Karlsson, Chalmers).
13:15-15:00: Magnetic scattering (Diana Lucia Quitero Castro, University of Stavanger, via
Zoom).

Wednesday 18 October

10:00-11:45: Different types of motions and how they can be distinguished (Mona Sarter,
ISIS, via Zoom).
13:15-15:00: Different types of neutron spectrometers, including the spin-echo technique
(Mona Sarter, ISIS, via Zoom.)

Thursday 19 October

10:00-11:45: Coherent and incoherent scattering of crystalline and amorphous materials
and examples of science where inelastic and quasielastic neutron scattering are useful
tools (Jan Swenson, Chalmers).
13:15-15:00: Complementary molecular dynamics simulations (Inna Ermilova, Malmö
högskola).

Friday 20 October

10:00-11.45: Data analysis. Corrections and analysis of real experimental data (Tilo Seydel, ILL).

13:15-16:00: Exercise in corrections and analysis of real experimental data (lead by Tilo Seydel, ILL).
