The MATRAC 1 School will provide a systematic overview of the application of neutrons and synchrotron radiation to the structural analysis of materials and will focus on scattering and imaging experiments using X-rays at synchrotron sources. All relevant experimental methods will be covered. The school consists of a two-day theoretical course, the first day of which will be held at the seminar house “Sunderhof” in Hittfeld near Hamburg and the second day at LINXS in Lund, both with some interactive teaching elements. Furthermore, the school offers two days of experiments: one day each at the GEMS/DESY beamlines at PETRA III in Hamburg and at MAX IV in Lund. On the fifth day of the school, further talks and a final discussion will take place. PhD students, last-year Master’s students and young postdoctoral scientists from research and industry from all over Europe interested in the field are welcome to participate.

The school is held in with the framework of the Röntgen-Ångström-Cluster (http://www.rontgen-angstrom.eu) and receives funding from the BMBF (Bundesministerium für Bildung und Forschung, German Federal Ministry of Education and Research) as well as from the Vetenskapsrådet (Swedish Research Council).
