What are the impacts and key issues for Sweden – and why

The Swedish Material Science beamline faces a relocation risk.

The reason for the relocation risk is that the Swedish beamline is in a prime location, with its long exit length, for forming beams with particularly good coherence properties. 

Retaining this location will be hotly contested in the scientific excellence process.

Relocation would increase the down time of the beamline. A longer duration of beamline closure is a particular issue because Sweden's MAX IV facility does NOT have the capabilities to conduct many of the types of material science research experiments that PETRA III offers.
