With the aim of extending the range of research and innovation experiments that can be conducted at the Swedish Materials Science beamline, this project will extend the SMS beamline’s current capability for supporting sample environments - from 200kg - to bulky and heavy sample environments that weigh up to 1.5 tons.

Our intention is to provide a fully equipped experimental hutch that can support all currently known heavy sample environments (see this survey ) as well as have scope for supporting future sample environments.

At this briefing, you will therefore have the opportunity to:

  • Gain an overview of the overall design concept for the Roll-in Station, which will be located at the EH2 hutch of the PETRA III Swedish Materials Science beamline
  • Hear about the specifications of major components, such as a heavy duty hexapod
  • Discuss the proposed design specifications and provide your input
